Humans have always know their time on Earth was limited. Each one of us is mortal, we know that. However, one thing we always assumed was that our civilization’s existence would be counted in millennia, not centuries. But now, scarcely 2 of those centuries since our first baby steps to space, we find ourselves facing eviction.
We have seen many challenges to our existence on Earth over the past 300 years, from potential nuclear annihilation to extreme earth changes. We even successfully fended off a rogue asteroid determined to smite us like the dinosaurs. The ferocious pace of technology has brought most of what we had been promised by the dreamers of the 20th century. We beat cancer and most other disease. We fixed our man-made climate disaster in the nick of time by changing the way we provide sustenance and energy to our billions of hungry souls. We have colonized our solar system and sent others exploring out even further. We have all but mastered the physical world with our technology.
However, we have never mastered our own psychology. And now it seems it will finally be our undoing. Our global democracy has “functioned” for several centuries, but inevitably, dissent arises. Often with deadly resolve. This time the consequences will end this planet and most everything in our solar system. The Green Moon faction has seen to that. They have, as they claim, "Hastened the Ascension". From their Lunar base, they sent a missile directly into our Sun. They armed it with our latest discovery, commonly referred to as, Dark Matter. But it is more than that, it is a key to a door. A door we should not have dared open.
The calculations say we have 138 years left. Barely enough time to start anew, elsewhere.
